No Good Thing

I start a new position tomorrow! I am a huge ball of excitement and nerves. The testimony that lead to this new season in my professional life can’t easily be attributed to my skill set, intelligence, or personal drive.

I am floored by God’s sense of timing, His ability to send my angels ahead of me to orchestrate this new phase in my life. My fantasies of God and his works goes like this: “Five years ago she was stressing about where she would be placed. Her nerves were shot and everybody knew it. Funny how this time around her heart rate hasn’t missed a beat. She’s traveling, enjoying her summer and puttering around the house. People keep asking and she keeps pointing to my will. The nerve of this child of mine! It’s literally the 11th hour and my child is still holding on. I see the doubt creeping in and the furrowed brows every now and then. Let me put this girl out of her misery and set this thing in motion!”

God sits up high but looks down low. There are some things that cause me to worry, but as surely as the sun came up today, I am reminded that He is still on the throne. I think of others who may not be where they feel they need to be financially, emotionally, and spiritually. And I think of the verse that reminds that we are all a work in progress, moving “from glory to glory.” I was stuck and wanted God to remove me immediately. When he didn’t, I was not a happy camper. Hindsight is usually 20/20. When we travel back to moments that literally saved our lives, we are humbled to see His hands at work on our behalf.

Being stuck in a rut may be His way of pruning you. Removing your “carpet comfort zone”, his method of waking you up. Doubling and even tripling your responsibilities, a means of pushing your talents further. With the Holy Spirit as your guide and Jesus as your heavenly advocate, you will have the grace to see this season through. God allowed it, and I am the better person for it.

Doors that were shut will fling wide open. Better yet, a better door will appear for you to walk through.

For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. -Psalms 84:11
